FAQ’s

How many people will be in the group?

We have a maximum of 12 people on our open first aid courses. This ensures a comfortable learning environment and the time and space for trainees to get lots of hands on practice. 

What do I need to wear for the first aid courses?

We recommend you wear comfortable clothing (not skirts or dresses) to participate in the essential practical elements of our training. You should also wear layers to ensure you are warm enough on the course as we may have windows open to circulate air.

Do your courses comply with UK Resuscitation Council guidance?

Yes, all of our courses have been written according to the latest UK Resuscitation Council guidelines (2021) and our weekly newsletters will inform you of any updates and changes.

I am unable to kneel on the floor, can I still attend?

Yes, of course we can adapt the practical elements for you. Although if you are doing a regulated course the HSE require that we observe you undertaking full CPR on the floor as otherwise we are only able to issue a modified certificate excluding the practical elements.  

What qualification do I get after attending?

If you’re attending our fully regulated Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course, you will receive an externally awarded Level 3 Ofqual Certificate, valid for 3 years. This course involves practical and multiple-choice assessments and you will recieve an HSE appointed person Emergency First Aid certificate valid for 3 years with verifiable CPD via email. If you need your certificate sooner we can issue a non-regulated one and award it to you on the day.

If you’re attending one of our other Award-Winning scheduled courses, including Emergency First Aid – All Ages (3 hours) or Paediatric First Aid (1 day), we will email your Emergency or Paediatric First Aid Certificate  on the next workng day, this certificate is valid for 3 years (although an annual refresher is recommended).These certificates include verifiable CPD where appropriate.

The 12 hour Paediatric First Aid certificate states that you have completed the Paediatric First Aid Course covering the topics specified by Ofsted and fulfilling Ofsted requirements for Child Carers. This is the certification required to register with Ofsted on the Voluntary Register. Our Blended learning (6 hours online through onlinefirstaid.com and 6 hours practical) enables us to award the 12 hours Early Years or Full Paediatric First Aid Certificate as specified by Ofsted for those looking to register on the compulsory Ofsted Register.

How long is my certificate valid?

Your certificate is valid for 3 years. We also offer Annual First Aid Refresher courses to give you the confidence that your knowledge and skills are up to date. AED certification is only valid for one year.

In addition to our practical courses, we offer Online and blended First Aid courses through our sister company, www.onlinefirstaid.com where you can learn vital skills and extend your first aid knowledge from your smart phone and mobile devices in your own time. These courses fulfil the requirements for those needing the Appointed Person qualification or serve as an Annual First Aid Refresher as recommended through the HSE. The blended learning allows you to complete online learning at your own time and pace and then be assessed on the practical elements by one of our trainers.

The online learning is written in simple English and is ideal pre-learning for people with English as a Second Language to give them the language skills necessary for the accredited courses.

Can I bring my baby (or dog) along to the course?

We love babies (and dogs), but unfortunately our training venue is not set up for them to attend with you. We can come to you. If you would prefer to have your baby or dog with you on the course, we would be delighted to run a course for you and a small group of friends at one of your homes with your little ones present. Just ask… 

What is blended learning?

We offer a superb blended learning option for those who require the 12 hour Paediatric First Aid qualification that fulfils the criteria for the Ofsted Early Years First Aid certificate for the Compulsory Ofsted Register.

We also offer blended learning for groups of people wanting to undertake the fully regulated EFAW or FAW qualifications – these are only available to group bookings though.

12 hours learning time includes 6 hours online pre-learning on your computer or mobile device from our sister company www.onlinefirstaid.com followed by 6 hours on one of our Award-Winning practical training courses.

The online First Aid courses are compatible with all computers and mobile devices and allow you to stop and start as often as you like. The course is interactive consisting of videos, step-by-step instructions, diagrams, flow charts and much more. You have 12 months of continuous access to the course.

On the practical course we will cover the full Ofsted syllabus and your trainer will have adult, child and baby manikins available to use. You will receive a full course manual and the 12 hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate to take home with you, which is valid for 3 years.

The course content will be tailored to your needs, so that you leave equipped with the knowledge and skills to deal with situations that particularly concern you. First Aid for Life is fully regulated through Qualsafe Awards, Ofqual and the RQF framework. You will receive your certificates the next working day following the course. All our certificates award verifiable CPD.

How do I book and pay for a course?

Please visit our scheduled dates page where you will find everything you need to know about our courses – available dates, times, prices, location. Once you have found the course you would like to attend, Select a date and Order Now to book your place and pay by debit/credit card or PayPal.

To book a group course at a time and place to suit you, please just ask and one of our office managers will make all of the necessary arrangements for you, and once confirmed you will be able to pay by bank transfer.

Are the trainers CRB/ DBS checked?

Yes, all of our trainers are DBS checked and certificates are verified on a regular basis. 

What qualifications do the trainers have to teach?

We are regulated by Qualsafe who provide approval on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive for Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work courses. All our trainers are annually moderated and regularly verified and have a formal teaching qualification.  In addition First Aid for Life offer regular updates and upskilling sessions for the team and require that all our trainers have used their skills in real life situations and are experts on the subject of first aid and related topics.

Our trainers are highly experienced medical, health and emergency services professionals who will tailor the course to your needs. They all have many years of front line experience as well as being superb, engaging first aid trainers.

Do your courses meet HSE First Aid at Work requirements?

Our scheduled Emergency  Level 3 First Aid at Work (EFAW) 1 day courses are accredited and regulated practical courses that meet the First Aider requirements of all workplaces with less than 50 employees with low to medium risk and for larger and higher risk businesses to support other First Aiders.Because of the additional areas we include within our training our courses offer a far better training for sports professionals and anyone else needing a first aider who is able to assist with someone having a heart attack, head injury or asthma attack.

We also offer the full Level 3 First Aid at Work (FAW) 3-day and 2 day refresher courses for groups. 

Our online courses and 3 hour practical courses award an Appointed Person qualification valid for 3 years.
